TE72 Project Part II

So lately my car developed some problems which occurs 3 days after i cleaned/changed the plugs. This problem happened a while ago and it bugged me for couple of weeks

Since this car is my daily horse, i cant really let it resolve on its own and cause me probs to my daily routine. So i started troubleshooting the problems.

I can only find a few evidence that may cause this issue. Well the problems will happen 3 days after new plugs. What will happen after 3 days? The car will jerking uncontrollably and will kill the engine at some time. Who's the culprit? Well all the plugs will be pitch black. And all i have to find is the Why.

Asked some advice from friends, air leak could be the reason. But from where im standing, the vacuum lines looks fine ;)

So i checked the injectors. 240cc seems big enough for my standard engine. The usual should be around 180cc

And i opted for 180cc injectors from standard 4age. And from this view you can see the standard injectors only have single holes, whereas mine have double.

The results? NOTHING. It seems like the fuel mixture is too rich as the plugs turns black in such a short time, so adjusting the distributor to advance should results in higher sparks. In theory it should burns the fuel like the usual 14.7. But i was wrong. Other theories said that map sensor maybe the cause, but it wasnt the probs either.

Since i cant resolve the issues on my own, i called the pro's that knows 4AGE rather well. A simple sign of  water entering the ecu has been the cause all this time. After changing the ECU it worls like a charm. Bugger.

After 6 months of unupdated stories of this car drifting and stuffs. Its time for usual maintenance, LSD oil, gearbox oil, engine oil. And right after that the same problem occurs, AGAIN.

The ECU was fine. Everhting was fine. Even the pro's that settled the previous problems also dont have any idea bout the problem. So its time for me to troubleshoot again. Fuel filter replaced, it may trapped old rust in there.

Installed fuel regulator. And it was rather frustating as the reading was perfectly OK but the problem remains the same.

Since fuel part works perfectly fine, its time to check for ignition system. New batteries, distributor setting was OK. Sparks was OK.

Changed the cable plug too as there's a minimal amount of current leak.

Oh and this stockings from Tomei :)

Changed air flter at the same time. Serviced the throttle body, service the intake.. etc. And nothing happened. The compression also was fine, so valve leak has to be eliminate.

Since all the methods doesnt work. I decided to change the fuel pump as that is the only thing i/anybody havent checked. And then it works fine till today! Its really annoying to see how a small thing can effect everything!

And then i decided to give myself a gift, F1 side mirror.

After couple of drifting weekends (which i havent update here yet) my exhaust broke in half twice within 3 months.

It was loud and a bit powerful. But i rather cruise in stealth rather than breaking my own ear.

So here comes new piping measuring 2.3" which is recommended by many 4AGE folks. A flexible pipe, ditch the centre bullet and RSR exhaust at the back. (pics later)

New glovebox

And bucket seat and harness for me.

Will change passenger side soon, it looks horrible and kinda dangerous for taxi riders.

continue with PART III
