16# Celica update

Last couple of weeks i brought my T50 gearbox to my college.

This is to overhaul the gearbox, and check for irregularities in the gearbox.

It was really dirty, it was so dirty that the dirt covered the whole floor.

It was a prickly thing to disassemble. But we finally got the whole thing rip apart.

And thanks to all my classmate, they helped me clean all the parts plus sanding the housing till it shines.

While we were at it, i counted the ratio of my gearbox

So the ratio as predicted.

First Gear: 3.587:1

Second Gear: 2.022:1

Third Gear: 1.384:1

Fourth Gear: 1.00:1

Fifth Gear: 0.861:1

Compared to the specs from AE86 specification, the T50 gearbox shares the same ratio. But i forgot the teeth number for the reverse gear.

So there's no fancy ration in there.

However, this is ratio for TRD package 1 and Package 2

TRD package 1 ratios:

First Gear: 2.630:1

Second Gear: 1.891:1

Third Gear: 1.380:1

Fourth Gear: 1.00:1

Fifth Gear: 0.861:1

TRD package 2 ratios:

First Gear: 2.341:1

Second Gear: 1.607:1

Third Gear: 1.195:1

Fourth Gear: 1.00:1

Fifth Gear: 0.886:1

The second TRD ratio is much more shorter. And thats a big advantage in sprint. But the first ratio is a wiser choice.

But this is a crazier ratio

Quaife ratios:

First Gear: 2.347:1

Second Gear: 1.733:1

Third Gear: 1.379:1

Fourth Gear: 1.144:1

Fifth Gear: 1.00:1

I guess the input shaft connect to the fifth gear perhaps.

After counted everything, asked them to help me clean the ratios.

Bought gearbox oil seal that was leaking badly. It seems that this leaking oil seal from input shaft was the cause of the clutch slip. Happened once to my previous KE70. Bought along oil seal located at the output shaft as it was also leaking...rather badly. And also a new slave cylinder.

So i sprayed the gearbox

And couple of layers of primer and colors to make it look like this.

Installing back all the stuffs

I suspected that the 2nd gear synchronizer ring was at fault, as sometimes it make a creak noise when i changed to 2nd gear. In inspection, the ring was fine, so as the shifter. So my conclusion is maybe the clutch is not in a proper condition, because the noise rarely happen and not only occured at 2nd gear. So i bought a new slave cylinder , new upper clutch pump and new clutch ;)

And after all the hassle

Back to my house. Reconditioned just like new.

#15 Celica update

It has been a while since my last update. So last week i prepared my car for a body works.

While waiting for the tow truck to arrive. I marked the spots that needed welding work.

And it needs a lot of welding works

So off to Klang. why Klang?

As ya'll dont know. I sent my previous KE30 to the best body shop in town. But the plan was discontinued as i had to get rid of it due to the purchase of my previous BMW E30 Obermaier.

So this time, for the second time. Im sending my Celly to the same shop, Ah Hai of Klang.

Estimated around 3 weeks to complete and a lot of dough to spend till it finish

I brought along the stuffs to be install on the car. I also got a brand new side panel with 1.0mm thickness.

And my side lamp for adjustment on the fender

Front panel

front bumper

And window winder

So after a week. 50% of the work had been done, this shows how fast these people do their job. Unlike previous body shop who contradicted his own words.

So the door is already done. A marvelous job on the inside.

The fender works. Its finally connected to the side panel.

And the side panel is already in

The roof has been reworks as the previous job was rubbish

Rear fender needs to be cut and welded in order to mount the car as low as possible.

And the engine bay is almost done. I deleted all the hole inside the engine bay

I hope it will finish next week

Some shots of the car inside the shop.

Believe it or not. This Mini Moke is a customer car and in waiting list to restore.

Do things patiently, gain more satisfaction.

cheers

#14 Celica/510 update

This project is a bit interesting to me. The project between my 510 and my Celica is kinda meet up at some point. And that point is here, since i only update about the 2tg in my 510 thread, now im going to update it in my Celica thread instead because later on it will be going into my Celica.

So the story is i wanted to convert the engine from my Datsun 510 which is the 2TG back to my Celica. Im not much into originality, but the original engine from GT model Celica is a rare stuff.

And good looking too. (Dont mind the writing and the color of the engine)

And me too is not that much into rare things. But since i got it from my 510, and its also a suitable candidate with a twin cam, OHC instead of pushrod , crossflow , twin weber and most importantly easy to install and not a hassle to endorse, so its gonna be my future power plant.

4AGE has always been my favorite engine , it was also one of my option for the Celica. But the plan was cancelled due to more financial acquires to convert as i had to do more wiring, more modifications and more headache!

Well as a big time project, i've decided to rebuild the engine. From top to bottom.

So im gonna need some parts and listing of stuffs need to be done

For the engine
-2TG Overhaul Gasket
-Intake manifold (right now its only an adaptor)
-Carb Linkage
-New fuel hose
-New velocity stack
-Service the Weber
-Refurbish the extractor
-Carbon brush alternator
-Carbon brush starter
-Service air cond compressor
-New cable plug
-New coil
-New spark plug
-New belt
-3 Layer rad and samco hose
-Electric fan
-Modified the distributor and delete the igniter
-Clean the block and color it to make it more flashy

There is a plan to rebore it to 2000cc but thats just too much and i think to make it stock ismuch more easier and reliable.

For the transmission

-Overhaul the gearbox (gonna need overhaul set)
-Count the ratio and hope to find a shorter ratio
-Skim the flywheel
-New clutch, pressure plate, diaphragm, pump cover..etc ( T50 gearbox - same as 4AGE tranny)
-Service the rear axle
-Count ratio of axle and find the final drive
-Maybe try to weld the crown gear

Sounds like a plan. And whole lot of it, but all i can do is hope for the best and do the best as i will do everything on my own. I will update more about it soon, and tomorrow will start overhaulin the transmission.
